Alright, I recommend watching the Human Weapon on Krav Maga and Ninjutsu for a bit of a visual concept of how to disarm an opponent before I get started. Also, you can read this short online book GET TOUGH for more ideas. Number 28 in this book contains Fairbairn's "Timetable of Death" which is useful knowledge if you ever find yourself in a situation where you have no choice but to kill your attacker.
I recently had a need for learning more knife defense and offense as there has been a lot of stabbings happening lately around my place, so I read up on some info, watched some videos and had my trainer who is also a master certified instructor of Krav Maga, Trey Franks, teach me some self defense techniques pertaining to this.
This is also some cool shit to know to freak people out around school. Anyhow...
In the case of you being drawn into a two way knife fight, you want to keep your knife arm extended slightly out and your unarmed arm slightly back but ready to move. A lot of unexperienced fighters want to make slashing motions, unfortunately for them, this is not how to go about it. A slash will only hurt like hell and cause some good bleeding. This is good psychologically if you want to scare your attacker or defender into submission, but if its a fight to the death, you do not want to be the one slashing. You want to stab the opponent. Short quick "in and outs" do the trick.
If you find an attacker coming at you while disarmed, there are several ways to defend yourself. If you find a long stick/pole/switch/rod/sword or anything that gives you a reach advantage to your attacker, all you must do is keep your distance and beat the hell out of them. Throwing things like sand in their eyes works. Aerosol products like Lysol and air freshener or colognes and perfumes work extremely well. If you have a chair nearby that you can pick up, grab the chair by the top and charge your opponent with the legs facing them. This will enable you to trap them or hurt the hell out of them. Other things that may be effective at neutralizing/deterring your attacker could be mace, wasp spray is amazingly effective, guns (no shit), hot liquids, groin shots with thrown objects or your legs, etc.
Techniques for disarming need to be practiced. You do NOT need to watch a video or read a book and then run out and try and do this shit. For this reason, I am leaving the book above and the human weapon episode names above to watch for yourself and leaving you this warning. If you wish to practice with a friend, do NOT use a real knife. Use things like sticks instead... non pointy ones dumbass.
If you find yourself in the attacking position, use the book also. Learn Fairbairns "Timetable of Death" to better understand attacking points. Use stabs, not slashes when fighting. Aim to neutralize not kill your opponent. Only attack while defending yourself. If an attacker is unarmed, only flash a knife to attempt to deter, but be mindful this could piss the attacker off and you do not know what he has.
The best solution to most fights is too run. You and your attacker gain nothing in fight, and nobody wins. Remember this.
